About Me and My Products

California BeeWorks is a Southern California company that started by selling honey in local Farmer's Markets. As honey sales expanded so did my supply of beeswax --- and candle making was the logical solution to that! I started by buying molds and eventually learned to make the original molds that gives us the funky edge that we are known for.

Our motto is "...it's all about the bees!" and that's how I manage this business. I figure if it's good for the bees it's good for business. I've never used chemicals in my hives, and I lobby for chemical free landscape, agricultural and culinary practices. I think we can argue for days about the safety of organic vs. non-organic foods and in the meantime the bees will die. My strategy is to maintain the health and strength of my hives by using the best genetics possible, making sure they have adequate food sources, and protecting them from pests and diseases as much as possible. Therefore my honey and my wax products are as chemically free as I can make them. To you, the candle consumer, that means your new candle is made of wax as pure as my bees can make it.

I began teaching beekeeping classes at the local Community College, and out of that I discovered that most new beekeepers are a lot like me! A little older, and a lot of gals! We like bees and beekeeping but we don't like the heavy lifting and since we often are gardeners too we'd like our hives to look good in our yards, and so the B-HAV-N hive was born. Lots of healthy bees also means more and prettier fruit. I tell people that buying and burning beeswax allows small beekeepers to generate the funds to buy the latest in disease resistant, gentle but productive queens so that we can gradually strengthen and improve domestic bees stock before it's too late. In addition to better and more abundant food, raw un-superfiltered honey is good for coughs, wound care and possibly allergies.
